2016-2017 ANNUAL ASSESSMENT CALENDAR
November formsite
Check the browser in November and complete a formsite which will inform parents of the Annual assessments and the compatibility of their browser. Teachers who wish to test this out before going to class can do so by creating a fictitious student :
first name: Fictitious
Surname: Student
Student N° : 9999
Student course N° : 9999
and using your TLC teacher email in all cases where an email will be requested. This way you will recieve the various emails that get sent to student - parents and teachers and fully undertsand what they are sent.
December week 1 writing assessment
Ensure that student can complete the writing task and grade the essay in class following TLC's grading guidelines. Teachers must not help the students in any way. This is vital in ensuring that you as teachers are able to acertain if they can take an English Language Validating Exam in June. Helping them makes you unable to achieve this task correctly.

Teachers are invited to grade the students essay in class. Ensure that you have prepared a small reading task for your students to do while you grade their writing in private. Once the Students have graded their students THEY MUST NOT GIVE THEM THE GRADE NOR THE BAND as TLC HO will be moderating and the grade or band may change.
What TEACHERS have to do before ASSESSMENTS
What are ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS?
This is the procedure designed for teachers to be able to acertain if their students are on track with their short term objectives. This is a combination of formative and summative assessments. It is formative with regarding to the writing task and allows teachers to determine if the skills required at their language level have been aquired. It is summative in the sense that the results of the OPT or YL tests will give us an indication of the overall students comprehension level and will allow TLC to acertain if the student is ready to sit an English Language Validating Exam in June of this year.
ASSESSMENT
VOCABULARY
ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS/ the annual assessemnts at TLC are internal tests administrered by the students in the presence of their teacher. The importantce of this is so that the teacher can confirm that indeed the student completed the required tasks alone.

OPT/YL These are two online tests available for students of different language levels. The OPT is for all studnts in and above Cycle 3-1 and the YL test is for students in Cycle 2-3, Cycle 2-4, A2 coaching primary and/or A2 Coaching secondary.

GRADE EXPECTATIONS When we grade our students we have expectations that are linked to the students existing English language levels. this implies that we should not have many surprises. At TLC we know our students and therefore already have an idea of how our students should fare. Not meeting our expecations would imply that there is another element that needs to be added to the equation :- increasing or decreasing motivation - had extra lessons over the summer and therefore we woill need the teacher to be able to justify this in their teacher pupil progress meeting.

RECOMMENDATION This is when you as a teacher analyse the students resuts and recommend one of three possibilities:

-
TAKE MOCKS
-
TAKE MOCKS TO TRY
-
DON'T TAKE MOCKS

NOVEMBER FORMSITE This is a form the teacher is expected to complete in class. The consequence of completing this form informs parents of the following:
-
The reason TLC has annual assessments.
-
Their browser compatibility:
-
is compatible and they are able to use this computer for the annual assessments
-
Their browser is not compatibe and they must update the browser in order to be ready to use this computer for the annual assessments
-
Their was no computer to check browser compatibility and so it is now up to them to check if the browser is compatible.
-
-
Inform parents of the dates of the annual assessments and should they know in advance that their child will be absent they must sign up for the catch up session available at TLC offices on Saturday. Failure to ensure that the annual assessments do not happen according to plan implies that we will not take the responsibility of making a recomendation.
REMINDER CHART This is a piece of paper you can print at the students home or take with you (as we have provided one for each of your students in your assessment folder). The purpose of this is to leave a physical reminder that the assessments are going to take place.

December week 2 OPT/YL assessment
The student is to complete the online comprehension assessment and obtain the automatic grades. Then as their teacher you are to complete a formsite with the results of the two tests as well as your recommendation as to whether they should try and take the MOCKS next month. This is done with the help of the ASSESSMENT CHART and checking the grades of your students writing as they will have been moderated.

What TEACHERS have to do after THE ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS
Evaluate all their students
Teachers need to take the time to check if their students results were as expected or not.
IMPORTANT
THE ROLE OF A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER IS NOT ONLY TO BE ABLE TO TEACH EXPECTED LEARNING INTENTIONS BUT ALSO TO BE ABLE TO ASSESS AND EVALUATE THEIR STUDENTS IN ORDER TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THEIR NEXT STEPS
They are administered by the student's teacher in four parts:

Part 1: This is the moment when teachers inform parents of the upcomming assessment period by completing an online formsite. Completing this task allows parents to be informed of the assessment process and how we process al the information as well as all the deadlines. Failing to do this will mean that the parent is not informed of the assessments and therfore creat an problem whereby computers are not available or compatible not to mention the possibility of students being absent. ASSESSING THE STUDENT CORRECTLY is the responsibility of the teacher.

Part 2: is the writing assessment and this must be done 2 weeks before the Christmas break. So as to give TLC HO time to moderate the essays. Teachers are expected to grade their students essays with 48 hours of the assessment taking place. This is imperative because TLC HO will be moderating all these essays to ensure that the grading scale is properly respected and that the grades are correct.

Part 3: is the comprehension part of the assessment and is automatically graded after the test takes place. This is less time consuming and therefore is done first week of January.

Part 4 is the part where the teacher looks at the different grades and based on these grades and the assessment chart grid makes a recommendation if the student is ready to validate their English level by taking an ESOL exam in Jue.

Part 5: This is the part where TLC HO receives the teachers recommendation and decides if they agree or not. This level is to ensure the quality of recommendations going out to the parents.

ALL ASSESSMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE 7TH JANUARY in order for TLC HO to be able to look at all the recommendations teachers have made. FAILING TO MEET THIS DEADLINE WILL MEAN THAT TLC WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADVISE PARENTS ON TIME FOR THEM TO RESPOND AND PREPARE FOR EXAMS IN JUNE.
Complete writing grading course
You will be given a series of writing samples to grade following our internal questionaire which is linked to the expectations of the Cambridge Writing Framework benchmarked to the Common European Framework. This course is to be completed by the 31st October.
Complete OPT/YL online test
Teachers are expected to take the test and ensure they know how to enter - exit move within the test so that if their student has any questions they are able to help them.
