Developing English as a skill for life

THE ROLE OF A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER IS TO BE ABLE TO TEACH EXPECTED LEARNING INTENTIONS AS WELL AS TO BE ABLE TO ASSESS AND EVALUATE THEIR STUDENTS IN ORDER TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THEIR NEXT STEPS
Complete Formsite in front of the student:

This should be done in less than 15minutes so that the student does not get bored. Use your activities to help animate the lesson. Knowing exactly the flow of the FCP allows you to be in charge of your first lesson with the student.

Ensure that the first class is FUN and that they have prepared a series of EXCITING activities to correctly assess your students.
Why do you as a teacher complete a FIRST CLASS PRESENTATION?
The first class presentation or FCP is what you have to present in your first TLC class for every student.
-
To present your self to your students in an organised fashion
-
To take the time to look at what your students have done (if they are returning students)
-
To look at what they are going to do in the academic year by going through your student's folder along with the course document
-
To make sure that all the information TLC has on PWII is correct (please keep in mind that some parents fill out their students' applications while preparing to go away on holiday so we need to check it is correct)
-
To check that your students are able to access all the different computer programs you use to teach your students.
-
To give you the opportunity to meet with your students in an organised manner so that you can better plan for their classes in the comming weeks.

What TEACHERS have to do before FIRST CLASS PRESENTATION (FCP)
Prepare around 6 fun activities to help evaluate your students' levels in : phonetics - grammar - vocabulary - reading - writing - listening and speaking.
Practice the flow of the FCP enough times to ensure that the form does not take more than 15 minutes to complete. To do this click on the following link to practice a fictitious student. Invent their name etc... and put your email as that of the student - the parent and the teacher. That way you will get all the notification emails that are sent out to all parties. Here is a sample email that is sent out. Keep in mind that the email feeds information that you have typed so if your say they have not got their folder it will inform the parents that they have to come to the office to pick it up.
NB: the form is divided into 6 sections:
Section 1- This section is one of the longest as it is subdivided into three sections: student details - parent details and student logon systems .
-
Student details: This involves
-
-asking if the student has their THIS YEAR'S folder - yes/no
-
-checking if dob - student school - class at school - student email - student tel n°-course are correct
-
-
Parent details: this involves
- -asking parent email and inputting it on the formsite
- Student Login details
- -informing students of their various login details
Section 2 - This section concerns OLD FILES. This involves a yes/no question. Do they have their old files? if yes ask them for it and quickly go through it with your student noting any workbooks and readers not complete for you to note any material that mayneed to be covered over and above the set programme.
Section 3 - This section is about NEW FILES. This involves a yes/no question. Do they have their this year's files? If yes ask for it and quickly check if all the documents are in their files. There is a copy of the course documents hidden behind the front cover of the folder.
Section 4 - This section asks two interdependant questions. However this section ONLY CONCERNS students in Cycle 2-3 and above.
-
Will we have a computer available in class yes/no?
-
If yes check the browser - this is a very easy task that takes three seconds if you fully understand the process of checking the browser- the computer will tell you if the browser is successful. Click on the oxfordonline link - scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "system requirements" , then on the blue link "click here" . Once this has been done then the computer will inform you if all is OK and what needs to be corrected.
Section 5 - This section is about your students QUIZLET account and it only shows up for A1 (apart from Cycle 1)and A2 level students . Teachers have to access their students accounts CAREFULLY. If it works they have to show their students how quizlet works. (For teachers to practice at home - username: newtlcteacher - password 6275017tlc)
Section 6 - This section is about the comming year's course expectation. It is the longest part of the FCP where teachers take the time to look at what they are going to do this year. Also teachers should take notes of their students to help them plan.
